Triggering menus across frames

I have a page consisting of 2 frames, one called navigation and the other called main. In the navigation frame, I have an imagemap consisting of 8 different areas.

How can I get a mouseover on each of the 8 areas in 'navigation', to display a completely different menu in 'main'? Each of the menus in 'main' will be placed in the same position.

Initially I thought I would be able to do this through the targetting function, but as that relates to links and I don't want to refresh the whole page each time, that won't work even if I changed the navigation frame to contain a Tigra menu.

Also, while I have managed to display a test menu in the correct position in the 'main' frame in both Explorer and Mozilla, it won't display using Opera 7. I can get a menu displayed in all 3 browsers in the navigation frame, just not 'main'. Any ideas why this is?
